National Doctoral Academic Forum of UCAS 2014 was held from October 23rd to 24th, 2014 at National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, Beijing China.

This forum was sponsored by University of Chinese Academy of Sciences with supports of National center for Nanoscience and Technology. The forum was mainly organized for Chinese and foreign PhD candidates to overview the opportunities and challenges that nanotechnology will face in future chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, materials and electronics fields.

With the theme of “New Nano-Times: Opportunities and Challenges”, the forum provided a platform for the young researchers to share their ideas and experiences in the field of Nanoscience and nanotechnology.

200 official registered representatives and 100 other participants were anticipated for this forum.

On the whole there were 5 sub-forums in it, including plenary lectures, branch lectures, international session and poster session. There were also other innovative forum for broader communication, such as network discussion and live exhibitions.

The academic exchange session for foreign students surrounded more than 9 oral and 10 poster presentations from famous universities of China.

Prof. Yue-liang Wu (Deputy Director of UCAS) warmly welcomed all the lecturers and participants attending the session for foreign students. His words boosted up the new researchers to face the challenges in their respective fields.

Prof. Magnus Willander, the expert of “Thousand Talents program” at Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystem was also one of the invited speakers in the foreign academic session. Prof. Willender’s lecture was quite helpful for the young foreign scholars to learn how to combine the experimental and theoretical research in the areas of materials and devices.

Prof. Chen Wang (Former director of NCNST) presented the certificates of appreciation to the invited lecturers of this session.

All the attendees fully communicated and deeply discussed the progress and key scientific problems in the field of Nanoscience and nanotechnology. This forum has established a good platform for the researchers from Nanoscience to exchange the ideas, present new findings and further enhance the opportunities in the exciting field of Nanosciences.
