The 2015 International Summer Camp, lasting from September 3rd to September 8th, opened in National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST). This is the first summer camp held by University of Chinese Academy of Science (UCAS) and NCNST together. More than 50 students from over 15 countries, including America, Norway, France, Iran, Pakistan and Thailand, India participated in the program.

On the welcome party of September 2nd, the students received a big welcome from the teachers and students of NCNST. Students from NCNST performed traditional Chinese dancing. Director Huang Dingcheng from UCAS presented the party and made a welcome speech.

On the opening ceremony of the summer camp, the students filled a peace tree with their signatures and fingerprints, expressing their best wishes for the future development of nanoscience and technology. After a brief introduction of UCAS carried out by Director Xie Yong from UCAS International Cooperation Office, the students interacted with Dr. Hüsnü Aslan from Denmark Arhus University and Dr. He Sha from San Diego University of America for academic exchanges. In the afternoon, the students learned about Chinese culture through maps, pictures and games. Then the students made dumplings together for the rest of the day.

On September 4th and 5th, the students attended the 2015 China Nano, a global conference for nanoscience and technology. During the conference, scientist and experts in nano fields from all over the world gathered here and discussed the developments of nanoscience and technology. More than 100 academic lectures, involving nano materials, nanobiology, energy and other nano related areas were presented. The students also gathered here and took photographs with Prof. Bai Chunli, president of Chinese Academy of Science.

In the academic and cultural exchanges on September 6th, Professor Wang Chen from NCNST discussed the opportunities and challenges of nanoscience and technology. He briefly summarized the recent developments in nano materials, nanobiology and energy related areas. He called on the students to find environmentally friendly solutions to apply nanotechnology into our daily lives. Professor Dr. Hossein Ganjidoust from Iran highly praised Prof. Wang’s efforts in Sino-Iran cooperation of science and education. After that, the international students took turns to introduce their studies and the culture of their own countries. During the summer camp, the students got a deeper understanding of China. They not only learned Chinese culture, but also harvested with experience and friendship from all over the world. Professor Liu Minghua, director of NCNST congratulated the students on their performance during the summer camp. In his summary speech, he encouraged the cooperation and friendship beyond nations and cultural difference. He then awarded the excellent students with certificates from UCAS and NCNST.

The 2015 International Summer Camp, sponsored by education foundation of UCAS, is a significant attempt for UCAS and NCNST, who are contributing to building an International platform for excellent researchers and students globally. We hope that more students can benefit from the summer camp.
