National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, China (NCNST) was co-founded by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Ministry of Education (MOE) in the December of 2003. Aiming for world-class research center, public technological platform and young talents training center in the related fields, NCNST has the mission of promoting basic and applied researches in nanoscience and nanotechnology. NCNST has three CAS key laboratories, which are CAS key laboratory for biomedical effects of nanomaterials and nanosafety, CAS key laboratory for nanostandardization and measurement and CAS key laboratory for nanosystem and hierarchical fabrication, covering 6 affiliated research labs (nanodevice, nanomaterials, biomedical effects and safety of nanostructures, nanocharacterization, nanostandardization, nanofabrication and its applications), 2 Nanotechnology Development Divisions (nanofabrication platform and nanomeasurement platform) and 1 Development Research Center. Moreover, there are also 19 coordination laboratories co-supported by NCNST, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other related institutes. Furthermore, NCNST is also the host institute of National Committee of Nanotechnology Standardization, China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) Nanotechnology Laboratory Accreditation Committee and Chinese Society of Micro-Nano Technology (CSMNT) Nanoscience and Technology Branch.

NCNST has outstanding scientists and professors in nanoscience and technology, including 55 senior professionals (13 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars,2 awardees of the National Thousand Young Talents Program and 27 awardees of the 100 CAS Talent Project) and 83 sub-senior professionals. 87% of the professionals are with overseas experiences in Harvard, Cambridge, Max-Planck Institute and other world-renowned universities and research institutes. Moreover, 386 registered graduate students (including 72 International students) are now studying in NCNST while 50 researchers are carrying out their post-doc research in our center.

NCNST began to enroll graduate students since 2005. We now have 560 students, including 390 registered students (220 Ph.D. candidates and 170 master students) and 170 visiting students from other universities. Among the registered students, there are 68 International students, accounting for 17% of the total. They come from 14 countries, bringing the institute with a diversified culture. NCNST has more than 300 alumni. Many graduates have done an excellent job and were awarded with distinguished honors, including National Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Awardee (7), CAS President’s Scholarship Awardee (11), CAS scholarship with Special titles(25), and prizes in all kinds of international academic forums. You can find our alumni in universities, companies, research institutes and other related workplaces all around the world. They are continuing to work hard and play positive roles in their jobs.
